SEMINAR “Comparative perspectives in Urban Risk Governance” on January 30th

The program Cities Are Back In Town is organizing on January 30th the seminar “Comparative perspectives in Urban Risk Governance”.

The seminar will take place in Sciences Po, from 2 to 6 pm, 13 rue de l’Université, Salle du Conseil, 75007 Paris.

Introduction

Olivier Borraz is a CNRS senior research fellow at Sciences Po, CSO. He conducts research on risk, particularly in the fields of health and the environment. He published in 2008 Les politiques du risque (Presses de Sciences Po) and a new series devoted to public policy (Presses de Sciences Po) with Virginie Guiraudon.

Speakers

Austin Zeiderman: Living Dangerously: The Politics of Risk in Bogotá, Colombia.

Austin Zeiderman is a research fellow at LSE Cities. He is an interdisciplinary scholar who specializes in the cultural and political dimensions of cities in Latin America, with a specific focus on Colombia. He holds a PhD in Anthropology from Stanford University (2012).

Lydie Cabane: Protecting ‘the most vulnerable’: migrants, disaster and the reach of the state in urban South Africa.

Lydie Cabane is a post-doctoral fellow at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques Bordeaux, LAM, specializing on the management of health risks and disasters, with a particular interest in the role of science. She obtained her PhD in sociology at Sciences Po in 2012 on « Governing disasters in South Africa. »

Discussants

Sandrine Revet is a research fellow at Sciences Po, CERI. She is an anthropologist, working on disasters and their management. She published in 2007 Anthropologie d’une catastrophe (Presses de la Sorbonne Nouvelle) and will soon release an edited book with Julien Langumier on the government of disasters (Paris, Karthala).

Tommaso Vitale is associate professor of sociology at Sciences Po, CEE and Scientific Director of the master “Governing the Large Metropolis”. He works on urban inequalities and segregation, urban conflicts, urban elites, and metropolitan governance. He recently published with Bonetti, Paolo and Alessandro Simoni, La condizione giuridica di Rom e Sinti in Italia. Giuffrè, 2011.
