Marching for a better Future

Three decades from now the world is likely be a very different place. How it will look like depends on actions we take today.

Change is in the air and that is why September 21st 2014 will be unique in history. It will maybe even bend its course. Because on the weekend before head of states climate summit on September 23rd in New York people all around the world will be part of an unprecedented climate mobilisation to transmit a single line: Time for words is over.

Instead of asking if our economies can afford to act, we should ask ourselves and our governments why we did not take action so far, what and who is stopping us, and why? Now it is everyone’s turn to take action. Climate change is an issue for all people, all businesses, all governments. It is time to join forces to push back against sceptics.

The benefits of pushing back, of addressing climate change are numerous and already well known. The reduction of pollution, improved public health, fewer disasters, cleaner, cheaper and more efficient energy, better managed forests, more liveable cities, increased food security and less poverty are only a few.

Keeping that in mind, people in more than 1.500 locations in 138 countries from New York to Berlin, Bogota to New Delhi, London to Johannesburg, Istanbul to Rio and Melbourne to Paris, stand up together. In numerous actions they demonstrate for an economy that works for people and the planet.

While most media focus on the main march in New York City, others march against local struggles, like coal in India or anti-fracking in Latin America. But the world will also watch the Paris march with particularly great interest as milestones like the COP21 and an upcoming universal climate agreement loom on the horizon.

To say it in Ban Ki-Moon’s words’: “The race is on”. And the single challenge for everyone, be it politicians, business leaders or citizens is not to get left behind, but to be at the head of the race. September 21st is a unique chance to make climate change a top priority for all leaders – at home and in the global arena – by working together.

Start now, by joining the climate march in Paris. It will take place on September 21st , starting at 14h from place de la république and to heading l’hôtel de ville, followed by a concert of Patrice. Contribute your part for the voice of the people being heard. Don’t be on the losing side of history.
