Weekly spotlight on the dedication of Air France to the environment

Welcome to Copposium! As the event approaches, we have decided to take a look at some of our most “outstanding players”, so to speak. Every week, we will be doing a spotlight on a person, company, or brand that has taken extraordinary steps in their dedication to the environment, and established themselves as a role model in their community.

As climate change and the ever-growing damage done to the environment have come to the forefront of political debates, many companies around the world have started to promote a push towards smarter, and more environmentally friendly, ways of doing business. In light of the coming COP 21 in Paris, we have decided to focus on a couple of major French brands that have taken steps towards creating a healthier today and a better tomorrow for all.

Our first spotlight is on Air France – this might seem contradictory, after all Air France is an aviation company responsible for its fair share of pollution, however, they have acknowledged that this is a necessary evil, and they have embraced the fact that they need to be more environmentally conscious. They have created a two-pronged organization that tackles the sustainability issues of today, called the Environment and Sustainable Development Division. The environment department is responsible for implementing new policies in the flight operations area, and ensuring that these transition smoothly. They also seek to spread the word about major environmental initiatives and provide support to teams that want to implement new environmental programs. The sustainable development branch is responsible for animating the policies developed by the environment division and they are responsible for creating reports on Air France KLM’s regulatory sustainable development. A successful example of this was in 2006, when they introduced a sustainable reporting tool named OSYRIS, or Operational System for Reporting on Sustainability. Since then, Air France has dedicated a considerable amount of their time and resources to making sure that their carbon footprint decreases, and keeping in line with their famous slogan of “making the sky the best place on earth”.

That does it for this week’s spotlight, stay tuned on Copposium to learn more about the brands of our future.
