One of our all time favourite singers, M.I.A, has released her new track “BORDERS”

M.I.A inspires our Girls Girls! community not only because her coolness and originality in of her music keeps rocking the world but also her engagement in politics and her social conciousness. Even though born in London, her family moved to Jaffna Sri Lanka where her parents were political activists and founding memebers of Eelam Rovolutionary Organisation of Students. As a child, she has lived through Srilankan civil war and dificult times until her family had to escaped back to England as refugees.

She has developped her interests and skills in music since in primary school and started out her artistic career in art and visual film before becoming songwriter and singer. Her soundtrack Paper Planes for the film Slumdog Millionaire has made her become well known world-wide. Many of her songs have empowered Girls Girls community such as the song Bad Girls that presents unconventional image and perception of  young women.

Her lifestory motivates us, makes us proud and she’s definitely one of the Girls who rock!
