I’m a man, what do I wear?
The Hipster guide to a successful look
You may have noticed a growing trend amongst young men in your city. The “short back and sides” (or SBS) has recently imposed itself and we know no one can take a trend further than our dear hipster friends. The haircut is a must have for anyone who puts a lot of effort into looking the part and can be accompanied with an interesting variation in wardrobe. Here is a non-exhaustive list of some of the variations that we’ve identified for you:
The David Beckham:
Dave casually having a pint at the pub
Since his move to LA the glamorous Dave has really stepped it up a gear in terms of style. Knowing his way around a tub of gel, Mr. B was one of the first to get rid of his long hair, opting instead for a cleaner look. With his love of tattoos, beanies and denim shirts, Becks certainly wins the world cup for biggest hipster dad.

The Mad Men :
The popular show, now in its last season, brought back the 50’s look to the party scene. Skinny ties coupled with a slick SBS, reminiscent of a time where all men under the age of 30 could actually find work, has been adopted by office-bound hipsters.
“Mad Men” star John Hamm and the ultimate hipster accessory: an absurd bicycle
The German soldier
Blond men looking to get the SBS need to keep in mind this haircut was also popular in mid-1900’s Germany at a time when the country experienced exceptional expansion. If our blond readers still opt for this haircut, do be mindful of your attire. Keep away from army green and camouflage gear you might find at your local thrift shop.
The Viking
One topic we still haven’t yet touched on, is the importance of facial hair for hipster men. When the SBS or “backcomb” of a blond man is combined with a substantial amount of beardage, the result is often a rugged Nordic look, as seen on the History Channel’s show “Vikings”.
Ragnar Lodbrok approves
This is a perfect look to avoid the afore-mentioned “German soldier” but does require a copious amount of facial hair and a gym membership.
FYI: Techno Viking is NOT a hipster
The Canadian Lumberjack
Across the pond, the hipster-Viking’s Canadian cousin has put the axe to a less bloody task: wood-chopping. Again, a full beard and a healthy amount of muscle is required.
To tell them apart, look for boots and checkered shirts. Hipsters have managed to resuscitate the checkered flannel shirt, a miracle on par with the resurrection of our lord Jesus Christ himself
True to his Canadian roots, Ryan Gosling works part-time as a lumberjack in the Hollywood hills
Be warned, all these variations have one thing in common: they will never look as good on you as they do on them!
