Upwards, outwards, backwards? Residential choice and educational considerations of middle-class Turkish-Germans
Christine Barwick is a PhD candidate in urban sociology at Humboldt-University in Berlin and the Research Institute for Urban and Regional Development (Dortmund). She gained her B.A. and M.A. in social sciences at Humboldt University in Berlin. During the studies, she spent two academic years in New York City, at the New School for Social Research, as well as the Graduate Center of the City University New York.
Her dissertation, supervised by Prof. Talja Blokland, deals with residential choice, neighborhood use and networks of upwardly-mobile Turkish-Germans in Berlin. Thereby, Turkish-Germans living in socioeconomically weak neighborhoods are compared to those who have moved out of such neighborhoods into more advantaged ones.
